A Message from Mike Jackson, President and CEO
Verso Paper’s mission is to create value for our stakeholders by providing business
solutions and developing innovative products and services that exceed expectations.
To achieve this, we know that sustainability must be the core of everything we do.
That’s why we made respect for a sustainable balance among economic, social and
environmental needs one of our founding principles and why we integrate our
sustainability philosophy into our business decisions.
We manufacture products from one of the few truly renewable resources on earth – wood
fiber from trees. At the heart of our sustainability philosophy is our
commitment to assure that we procure fiber
only from forests that are sustainably managed to remain healthy, productive and
biologically diverse for generations to come. That’s why we support third-party
certification to internationally recognized standards like the
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative ® (SFI), and
Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards.

In fact, we support sustainable business practices throughout our business, from the
forest to final disposition of our products, and we include completion of our
sustainability milestones among our key performance objectives. We combine our
commitment to sustainable forestry practices, responsible management of resources and
processes and a dedication to continuous improvement to make our business sustainable
in a way that few others can claim. Above all, we are committed to providing safe and
healthy workplaces for our nearly 3000 employees and to being good environmental
stewards to ensure healthy, thriving communities for our grandchildren … and their
grandchildren.

Customers are the reason we’re in business, and they are always a primary focus. We work
closely with them to assure that Verso’s products help achieve their sustainability
objectives and fulfill their customers’ demand for environmentally preferred products.
We often partner with our customers and other groups in programs to promote and grow
paper-related sustainability efforts across North America, and we openly dialogue on
sustainability issues with a variety of government agencies and non-governmental
organizations.
